Smile American Idol Top 13 Wink

Paula wore feathers...loved it Wink Well, they decided to sing songs from Michael Jackson's Collection of songs. Michael is an original, and singing his songs...well let's say...it is hard to match the master Wink Michael sold over 100 million copies of Thriller and no one has been able to match that. I bought the record when it came out...loved it. Quincy Jones is Ace.

On to the competition:

Lil Rounds sang "The Way You Make Me Feel" Whoa! She just has that natural talent that blows you away when she starts singing. She is headed to the radio.

Scott MacIntyre sang "Keep the Faith" Scott did a good job with this song. I thought that he seemed more comfortable at the keys. That is his forte. The judges called his performance "Safe". He didn't go out on a limb.

Danny Gokey Sang "PYT" He was working the audience. Wow...Rock it ...WOOOW! Love him.

Michael Sarver sang "You Are Not Alone" I noticed that all the performers were working the audience more, and Michael did the same. I thought he was "Safe". He did a good job, but I don't think he will win the popular vote.

Jasmine Murray Sang "I'll Be There" A little off key. She had a nice vocal lift at the end. Big Sound/Notes...over singing may be her hurdle. She has a good voice and in a couple of years could try Idol again.

Kris Allen Sang "Remember the Time" I love this guy's voice. He has a vibrato that I like. Great on the guitar. The girls love him, and he sings with Passion. Simon owes Kris Allen's wife an apology. There was no excuse for his rude comment about "bringing the wife out too soon". That was soooo uncool. They did a camera shot in the audience and the look on her face was a mixture of shock and hurt. She was not part of the competition. I know the angle Simon was getting at. It is the "Teeny Bop... fall in love with the rock star angle". Sells the artist with no strings. They tried to do that with John Lennon and Cynthia and the press still leaked that he was married. To say the least Simon was in rare form last night. The audience loves the "old cynical git" though Big Grin Apologize!

Allison Iraheta Sang "Give In to Me"... I first wrote down "Hidden to Me"...wonder "why"? Wink I know who she reminds me of now...Ann Nancy Wilson of Heart and Stevie Nicks. Combine those two and you have the "Allison Swirl". Wow! She is comfortable onstage. She also has natural talent.

This competition is going to be tough, because there is just so much talent this year.

Anoop Sang "Beat It" The thing with Anoop is that he has that special karma with the audience. They like Anoop. I like Anoop. He was a little sharp at times on this song. He also didn't really pull off the attitude needed for the song. I really think that he should have picked a different song, because Simon wished he hadn't given him the 13 slot...hmmm, is 13 unlucky? Pick a better song Anoop, one that will Wow the audience Wink

Jorge Nunez Sang "Never Can Say Goodbye". I like Jorge, but it was the wrong song for him. He was off key. Wasn't his best performance.

Megan Joy Corkrey sang "Rockin' Robin. I actually enjoyed Megan singing this song. I had a phone call during her performance and I didn't get to hear what the judges thought, but I will probably buy this one on Itunes Wink Loved her hair and outfit.

Adam Lambert sang "Black and White" I love "Goth Elvis". He gets the audience motivated. He is comfortable on stage. He can flat sing those vocals with a punch, baby. Great!

Matt Giraud sang "Why, Why" A little pitchy, but solid performance.

Alexis Grace sang "Dirty Diana". Wow she looked Hot! Loved what she wore and her hair! Wow at the end. She rocked the song.

My favs:

1. Lil Rounds
2. Danny Gokey
3. Allison Iraheta
4. Adam Lambert
5. Alexis Grace
6. Megan Corkrey

I would buy all of these on Itunes.

Love, Janet

As always...nice recap..but you are TOO kind for some of them. LOL!!!!!!!!

Anoop was AWFUL...I squirmed watching it "Oh NOOOOO." LOL!

Personally, I did NOT like Adam..I thought he was screaming, WAY over the top performance and his facial jestures and snarling drive me nuts.
LOL.

I LOVE Lil..but her song was a bit safe for me.

Danny sounded the best last night...

I am curious to see what the twist will be tonight as far a new element. Simon gace a tease about what it might be. My guess is that it involves the judges being able to somehow VETO when American get's it wrong.

VoteForTheWorst.com has been creating havoc for too long...Taylor Hicks winning should have made AI do something...so we shall see what happens tonight.

Tonights show started out with a nice medley of Michael Jackson's songs. One of my fav's "ABC" was in the mix.

Cool performance by Kanye West, and also Kelly Clarkston's "My Life would suck without you"

Ok here we go:

Michael safe
Allison safe
Jasmine no - maybe come back in a few years?
Matt safe
Kris safe
megan safe
scott safe
Alexis safe
Gokey safe
Anoop safe
Adam safe
Lil Rounds Safe
Jorge no

Anoop has another chance to show what he can do. Thing is? he has this karma thingy with the audience and it won him another chance. He is likable.

I think the next draw will be between Anoop and Scott.

There are three really strong contenders:

Lil Rounds
Danny Gokey
Adam Lambert

Again, I love Kris' voice, and Megan is growing on me Big Grin

Goodluck All!

My favs:

1. Lil Rounds
2. Danny Gokey
3. Allison Iraheta
4. Adam Lambert
5. Alexis Grace
6. Megan Corkrey

I love all the top 6 above so it will be hard to narrow them down.

Big GrinI just bought:

Black or White - Adam Lambert
Dirty Diana - Alexis Grace
PYT - Danny Gokey
Rockin' Robin - Megan Joy Corkrey
Remember the Time - Kris Allen
The way you make me feel - Lil Rounds

Love, Janet

Randy Travis Coaching Wink Country Idol Night

Adam Lambert Sang - Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash. I have to do a little research, but June Carter Cash wrote this one? I will look that up later. Ahh, Adam...he put his own spin on this song, and I loved it Big Grin I will buy it WinkWow! The Judges were mixed calling it strange, stands out, current, hot, and of course...Mr. Personality's "What the H*** was that?"

I loved it. He made that song his own...beyond country...his own spin. That is what musical genius is. Kudos to Adam!

Lil Rounds Sang "Independence Day" - She was absolutely gorgeous tonight. I loved her pink dress and her hair and jewelry. I liked her performance, but Country is not her genre. Simon likened her to a Wedding Singer with this one.

Danny Gokey Sang - "Jesus Take the Wheel" I was a little nervous when I saw that he was doing this song. The first half was so-so and then he let go in the middle of the song. I am sorry but I wouldn't buy it. Judges like him and so do I. Simon didn't care much for his White Jacket...hahaha...coming from a guy who loves fruit of the loom Eek

Kris Allen - noticed some off notes, but it was a nice ballad. Randy called it tender. Simon called it teriffic. Wouldn't know the song was country.

Scott - Wild Angels - Scott is very good on the piano. Audience clapping. The judges want to hear more hot, crazy vocals. They want him to mix it up more. I thought he did very well. I loved hearing him sing this song.

Anoop Desai sang - You're always on my mind - This was a good performance. Anoop sang with feeling and I thought the song showcased his voice. I would buy this one. Simon said he went from zero to hero on this song. Yea, Anoop Wink

Megan Joy Corkrey Sang - Walkin' after Midnight.
What a trooper...she came on with the flu. The judges thought she was over made up tonight...prom look. When you can get onstage...with the flu and sing as good as she did...wow! She is one classy lady Wink I hope she gets better soon!

Allison Iraheta Sang - Blame it on your heart. She just has that natural talent that just makes you go "wow". I think Randy Travis was impressed with the fullness of her voice at such a young age. I loved her performance and so did the judges. Randy called it "Dope".

Michael Sarver Sang Ain't going down til the sun comes up...something like that. Wow! The Audience loved it. It wasn't an easy arrangement to sing and I liked his version...plus the harmonica player rocked Wink Cool Simon couldn't understand him. Dear... they make these amplified earphones now that look like a bluetooth Wink mah, bad. He gave him 1.2 (1 out of 10). I liked it Michael Wink

Alexis Grace Sang Jolene - Dolly Pardon is a very talented singer and songwriter. I like the song Jolene. The audience clapped, but Alexis was a little off key in places. Not her best performance. I wouldn't buy this song, but I like Alexis. Judges said pitch problems, lost her edge, sound alike. Simon...vocals ok, forgetful.

Matt Giraud Sang when you feel that love is all that matters. The judges love Matt. He could sing doing cartwheels and they would love him. He has that timberlake look going for him. Judges mentioned "honesty" "Matt out sang Danny" "Comfortable" "Mad Skills".

Matt was low on the word "fate". To be honest I didn't think that this was his best performance, and I do like him as a singer. I just wouldn't buy his version. I am glad that America can vote, and it is not all judges decisions... Wink

Man, what a fun night. We grilled hamburgers and ate James birthday cake and drank starbucks coffee with friends Big Grin

Love, Janet

So..who is going Janet?

I predict Matt will go home.

Personally, I LOVED Lil a lot! And Megan's hippie jazz style is really great.

I just cannot stand Adam! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!His voice is amazing but he is too over the top for me liking and he seems like a one trick pony.

For the first time, I think I like the girls MORE than most of the guys...what I love about the girls this time is that none of them are singing with the affected nonsence..

Hi Laura,

I was a little shocked when it came down to the bottom three. Allison? She has such strong vocals. Alexis Grace - Bottom Three/no save. To be honest? Jolene was just not the right song for Alexis Grace. I was surprised though when they didn't save her. I wish her good things in the future.

Michael Sarver was also in the bottom 3, but he ended up being safe. A bit surprised with that save. Michael can sing, but does he have the "look"?

Welcome to the tour:

Adam Lambert - I bought his video to Ring of Fire on Itunes. Wish they would have had the tunz ready last night for Itunz Wink
Matt Giraud
Megan Joy Corkrey - Only person I know that can look so wonderful and have the cruddie flu.
Anoop Desai
Scott McIntyre
Lil Rounds
Danny Gokey
Kris Allen - He sang "To make you feel my Love" last night.

I loved the water balloon commercial Big Grin
Randy Travis and Carrie Underwood did a nice duet of "I told you so". I bought my dad a Randy Travis cassette tape, and he listened to it often before he passed away. Randy has one of those unforgetable voices. I love his music.

The group sang "Trouble" which was fun, and Brad Paisley sang "Then". I have to admit that I am not too familiar with Brad's work. I thought his performance was ok, but, just that. I love all kinds of music, but country? I am kinda luke warm about...unless you take the song and do an Adam Lambert...hehehe. I love the goth Elvis Big Grin

American Idol will be on Wednesday and Thursday next week...the President is gonna speak Tuesday night...I think that is what Ryan said on the show.

By the way? Why did Simon keep looking behind him last night? The camera caught that a couple of times.

Love, Janet

I think Alexis went too soon.
Not that I thought she could win, but I feel she did deserve to go on the tour.
The more I thought about it, the more I REALLY think that Scott (the blind kid) should have been the one to go.
I think they opted NOT to save Alexis because seeing that Scott did not go...and that VoteForTheWorst.com picked him as their vote..they figured they really might need this down the road...

Carrie Underwood has the most AMAZING voice..and I am someone that does NOT like country music at all..but her I LIKE.

I am just not too sure about the choice they made with Alexis. The competition is harder when you are given songs that don't fit your genre. Like Carrie Underwood has the perfect voice for "country" ect. I really thought they would save Alexis. I thought she deserved another chance...

I bought on Itunes:

Ring of Fire - Adam Lambert
Wild Angels - Scott McIntyre
Ain't Going Down til the Sun Comes Up - Michael Sarver
I can't Stand the Rain - Seal

Had to add some Seal Big Grin

Smile Last nights show was cool in that they honored Motown's 50th Anniversary. Barry Gordy was there and also Smokey Robinson. Smokey was their mentor, and they all made a trip to Hitsville USA.

I have to say that Smokey Robinson is one cool dude. He was so gracious and cool to all of the singers. The artist is amazing and I have always loved his vocals. "Crusin'" is one of my favs Wink While all the performers did their best...no one can touch his emotion when he sings...his vocals are wow!

Ok...tonight the first few performances didn't really get me excited. In James' words...there were no "great" performances until Allison...here we go:

Top 10:

Scott McIntyre: "You can't hurry love" - I think he is a good piano player, but to me his vocals are just not strong enough. He can connect with the audience though. Simon thought he picked the wrong song. "Hotel performance". I wouldn't buy this one.

Anoop Desai: "OOOW, Baby, Baby" Audience loved it. He missed a few notes. He showed emotion. Simon said good vocals, but it looked like he was asleep. I liked it, but the performance didn't thrill me enough to buy it this time.

Megan Joy Corkrey - Megan looked so lovely last night. I loved her hair and outfit. She sang "For once in my life" Smokey thought she was the most original. I thought she was shouting the song. Sounded like she was off pitch in places. Have you ever heard a song where the artist is stretching their vocal? I wouldn't buy this one. Judges comments: "Train wreck" "Didn't Work" "Horrible" I am so glad that she is better from the flu.

Adam Lambert: "Tracks of my tears" - It is really hard for me to listen to anyone other than "Smokey" singing this song, but Adam once again made the song his own. Last night, he wore a suit, slicked back his hair, and sang in his signature "falsetto" voice. It was unplugged, slow, and the judges loved him. Smokey gave him a standing ovation. "Exciting" "The Best" "Awesome" "Brilliant"
He reminds me of Elvis with a higher voice. To be honest? Adam's higher voice on this track? Not my cup of tea. I probably won't buy this one, but I do love Adam as an artist. I love seeing singers dressed in suits on stage. Of course, I love the leather too Big Grin.

Lil Rounds - "Heatwave" - Paula was up and Dancing. She sings with conviction. I loved the interaction with the backup singers. She looked beautiful, but it was not the right song for her. Randy said that it felt like she was rushing.

Michael Sarver - "Ain't to proud to beg" - I thought he was shouting the song. He didn't hit some of the high notes. Judges thoughts: "A little too big for him" "Over doing the song" "What can he bring to the song?"

Matt Giraud - "Let's Get It On" - I think I am a bit funny when it comes to certain singers and Marvin Gaye's version is classic. I didn't like Matt's version of the song. The judges love him though. I just wasn't thrilled by it.

OK...my picks for the night Big Grin Cool Wink

Kris Allen - "How Sweet it is" Smokey liked his version, and was impressed by his guitar playing. I am still in love with the vibrato in his voice. Audience was up and clapping, Paula was up and clapping. Kris picked a good song. Solid performance.

Danny Gokey - "Get Ready" - I would buy this song. Loved the backup singers. Loved his vocals. Enjoyed his interaction with the backup singers. I loved his performance! Simon called it "clumsy" The performance was full of energy and feeling.

The best performance last night? I am saving the best for last Big Grin Cool Cool Cool

Allison Iraheta - "Papa was a rolling stone" She put her unique vocal spin on the song. I loved her performance. She is just a natural on stage. Judges loved her performance: "Blazin'" "Amazin'" "Best Performance". I thought she was the best female vocal of the night. James loved it, and he even called in a vote for her Wink

Simon drew a mustache on Paula...lol...Paula pulled out the crayons and coloring books (pirates or Daisy and the pickles) for Simon, because he acts like such a child...hahaha. He is so good at being the "bad" guy. Is he all bull? He will never tell.

My picks for vote off:

Scott
Michael
Megan
Matt

I wish them all much luck though Smile

Love, Janet

I am NO FAN of Adam..but last night was a "WOW" for me.

Before the show, I told my husband that what Adam needed to do tonight was tone it down...sing something stripped down...and VIOLA..that is just what he did.

I really think that SCOTT should be the one to go...if not, then Michael Sarver...

My top four are these:
DANNY, ADAM, ALLISON, LIL...
The rest of them honestly are there for the ride.

I was going to buy Allison's, Kris's, and Danny's songs on Itunes, but they only have the videos ready so far. "Knock, Knock, anyone home at Itunes? I did get the Seal.com pod cast...which is cool, by the way Big Grin

Psst Laura? Barack is askin' for peeps to call their congressmen and women in support of his budget plan. Lol, I called Kay Hagan's office and the guy that answered said he couldn't answer whether she supported it or not...Jeepers. Everybody should have a copy on their desk by now. Left hand. right hand. Anyway...if you want to help the President and his policies you can call. Go to his website and you will find a link. If you put in your area code? They will give you a list of numbers to call. We need to stand up with him and show support Wink Put a burr under that saddle Big Grin

Update:

There were 36 million votes for top 10...it set a record;O)

Ruben Studdard sang - "together"
Smokey Robinson and Joss Stone sang a duet - "You are the one for me"
Stevie Wonder did a medley of his songs/ Cheri Amore, Superstition/Over you/ All about love again.

The gang also sang a medley of Motown hits - Set me free/You just keep me hangin' on/You're all I need to get by/ and Ain't no mountain high enough.

Their Ford video was cool Big Grin "Pocketful of Sunshine"...Loved it.

Ok -

Matt - Bottom 3
Allison - Safe
Anoop - Safe
Scott - Bottom 3 - Scott was saved though - curious about this decision.
Megan - safe
Danny - Safe
Lil Rounds - Safe
Kris - Safe
Adam - Safe
Michael - Bottom 3 - Lowest number of votes - Michael is off.
Let's face it the judges love Matt

I was going to stay offline today because of the "conficker" worm thingy, but I had a newsletter to put on the Church webpage so I decided to come online.

Idol Top 9

The theme last night was Most Popular Downloads.

Danny Gokey sang: "What hurts the most" Great Vocals. The Audience loved it. Judges: Paula said " You Thrived" Simon said: "it was his best performance" Randy - "Crazy with the vocals"

Allison Iraheta sang: "Don't Speak" I love No Doubt and this was a hard one to sing. I loved her vocals. She played the guitar which was cool. The only glitch was the outfit and her hair. The audience loved it though. Judges: Randy thought she was rushing the band. Paula thought it was masterful, and effortless. Simon thought it was "Dressy Uppy" and that she shouted the song.

Megan Joy Corkrey Sang" "Turn you lights down low" She definately has a distinct voice. I love Bob Marley so I was interested in seeing what she could bring to the song. I think I would rather hear her do "Back to Black" by Amy Winehouse. Judges thought: "Not her song" "She needs a ballad" "Wrong song for her" Simon called it: "Boring and Indulgent".

Scott McIntyre Sang: Just the way you are by Billy Joel. He wanted to show the heart. He changed his hair and it looks wonderful, and I loved the leather jacket...very nice Scott. It was a stripped down performance. Simon said "it was his best performance by far". Nice save Scott Wink

Adam Lambert sang: "Play that Funky Music" by Wild Cherry...Yeeeow! Do it, to it, baby! Simon called it "original". Randy "Starzone" Paula "genius". Great rendition by Ricky Minor and the band. Loved it Adam. Cool

Lil Rounds sang - I Surrender - celine dion: Simon: "Wedding Performance" "Old Fashioned" The judges know she can sing, but she needs to let it out and wow them. Randy "Not the sound choice" I thought she was a little off key in places.

Kris Allen Sang -"Ain't no Sunshine" by Bill Withers. He played the piano and the arrangement was different. The audience loved it. I loved it. Judges: Randy "So in the zone" "lovin' you" Paula "That is artistry" "Fantastic" Simon "Best Performance" "Good Arrangment" Cool

Anoop Desai sang "Caught Up" by Usher - The judges were not thrilled. Simon called it "a mess" "a college boy trying to be a popstar" Vocals were good, but he needs to work on his stage presence. The arrangement on this song wasn't the best.

Matt Giraud sang - "you found me" by The Fray - I thought he was off key at the beginning of the song. Love him at the keyboard though. Judges: Paula thought it was "Sound alike" Simon didn't like it. "gravelly". Randy "Wrong Song"

My picks for bottom 3

Anoop Desai
Matt Giraud
Megan Joy Corkrey
Lil Rounds

Last night was not very fun for me to watch.

I really like Danny and I was BLOWN AWAY byt the last guy...his names escapes me...

Otherwise..not very good. Adam is just to darn predictable for me...I just don't dig him. LOL!

I am the MOST FRUSTRATED by Lil. I KNOW she can sing but she does an awful job picking songs...I think the judges want her to do well also.

I have a feeling it will be either Anoop, Matt or Megan Joy tonight. I HOPE Megan can stay because I think she is really unique for American Idol...

36 million votes Cool

Matt - Safe - the mind is boggled by this one
Allison - Bottom 3 - She was saved... thank goodness
Anoop - Bottom 3 - Saved
Kris - Safe
Adam - Safe
Megan Joy - Bottom 3 - off: Best wishes to Megan. I thought she was unique, and a sweet personality...roc, roc, roc Wink
Scott - Safe
Lil - safe - she needs to pick better songs.
Danny - Safe

They sang "Don't stop Believin' by Journey as a group which was cool.

I loved the cool fusion commercial Wink
GaGa sang Poker Face...cool smoke, and I loved the thingy around her eye...wow performance!
David Cook sang "Come back to me" Loved it Smile

Over all? I really thought that Megan's voice was stronger than Anoop's. At this point? All of them really need to choose songs that showcase their vocals. Also, if they "wow" the audience...get the audience to their feet and connect...the tv audience will connect too. Sing, dance to and with the audience...get them involved. Fill your song with emotion and pour it out...give it to the audience. Signed, Sealed, and delivered. Wink

I'm gonna miss Megan's voice. I loved Rockin' Robin Big Grin

Love, Janet

What did you think of David Cook? I LOVE him and thought while watching him "NO ONE this year is as good as him."

Tonight we got together with friends and went out to eat, listened to a mariachi band, and then went back to our house for strawberries with angel food cake, plus the next installment of American Idol Big Grin

The songs tonight? "the year each contestant was born"

The 4 of us agreed the first part of the show just didn't "Wow" us.

Danny Gokey's version of Stand By Me (1980) was to say the least original. I didn't really care for the first part of the arrangement. The last half of the song was better than the start. All 4 of us commented that it wasn't the best. I thought he went off key in one spot, but it may have been the arrangement. I did like the way he was working the audience. Judges: Randy didn't love the arrangement. Kara "killed it" "Made it your own" Paula "Very Amazing" Simon "Over all great". Funny how opinions differ. I wouldn't buy it. If the start of the song had the energy of the last of the song then I would buy it. I really like Danny as a singer though.

Scott McIntyre sang - The search is over.(1985?) This song didn't thrill the 4 of us. It was ok, but not great. Problems on the high notes. Kara not sure if it was his best performance. Simon wants him to go back to the piano next week. "Boring" Randy "all ok" Paula "Bravo".

Kris Allen Sang - (1985) All She wants to do is dance. Kris was surrounded by a ring of girls in the audience. I liked the horns and I love his voice. Judges: Kara "Lost alot of it's youth" Paula "one of the most likable contestants" Simon "Forgettable" "Stupid, stupid song choice" Randy "I lost you"

Lil Rounds sang - What's love got to do with it. (1984)I loved her hair and her leather top...she looked hot. The song just didn't "wow" me...not like Tina Turner's version can. Not spectacular...all 4 of us agreed. Simon "Copycat performances" "Become Original" Paula " Brilliant Vocalist" "Karaoke"
Randy "not clicking" Kara "Lower range suffers"

Anoop Desai sang True Colors (1986) - The judges loved his performance. I thought he was off key in places, but over all a nice performance. Not the "wow" factor for all 4 of us. Randy "You can actually sing" Kara "You are using your Soul" Paula "Fantastic" Simon "Good, but not great"

Allison Iraheta sang - (1992) - I can't make you love me. First, I love Allison's voice and I thought this version was ok. I bought Bonnie Raitt's album and I like her version better, but like I said, Allison's version was ok. Paula "you gave all of your heart" Simon "very good" But, she needs to lighten up. Randy "You can sing your face off" Kara "Let's go make a record man" Not sure this song will "Wow" the audience in to voting for it though...sorry. I love her as a singer though.

Here comes best of the night:

Matt Giraud sang Part time Lover (1985) - This one is good. He had that Justin Timberlake thingy goin' on tonight. Did the judges notice? All 4 of us said it was the best of the night so far. Judges: Randy "Best of the night" Kara "Incredible" Paula "Standing O" Simon "Well Done"

Adam Lambert Sang - Mad World (1982) American Idol was running over so they didn't have time to all give opinions. (All of us WERE WOWED by Adam's performance tonight. Best of the night definately...he has a range that is "Mount Everest"). Judges: Simon said "Standing Ovation"... CoolWowzer that coming from Simon Big Grin

My picks for bottom 3:

Scott McIntyre
Allison Iraheta
Lil Rounds

Lil safe
Allison Saved
Danny safe
Scott off
Anoop safe
Kris safe
Matt - safe
Adam - safety pinned...hehehe Big Grin

I love American Idol nights cause we always get together with friends and enjoy the night.

Our friend Tony wants to buy all of Adam's songs on Itunes...that is how much he likes his performances Big Grin

Love Janet
