Someone has them on the web. And just because Seal thinks they're unsat doesn't mean they are, it just means that he's a perfectionist. He doesn't seem to like Human Being very much, and it's not just my favorite Seal album, I think it's one of the finest albums of the last twenty years... it's literally a hidden jewel amongst a sea of rocks in popular music. So since I've heard that Seal was being fairly adventurous (and taking a different direction) on the Togetherland songs, I'm very interested in getting them.

OK, I've now heard 5 songs in the Togetherland collection. My verdict after listening to them all day?

Holy crap, what an album this would have been.

This stuff is good... I mean really good. They have the same dreamy quality from Human Being, but with a more optimistic take. There's not the darkness of the Human Being sessions.

All That I Wanted To Say has one of the most sublime sax tracks you'll ever hear, very lush, very luxurious and ethereal. The songs were recorded, mixed, and edited very well. The tracks I have are:

Love Is Better
Elise
All I Wanted To Say

There are two different version of This Could Be Heaven.

There are some tracks referenced in Dan LeRoy's book The Greatest Music Never Sold that aren't in the collections I have (Leroy devoted a whole chapter to Togetherland).

Breathe
God sits (at the end of your tongue)
Is it a Dream?
English Lover (a duet with Emiliana Torrini)
(Just A) Step Away
Keep On
Let It Ride
Under The Sun
Togetherland
Ain't No Sunshine (cover of the Bill Withers song)

So it's apparent that there's still a lot of tracks from Togetherland out there that people can't get access to. According to LeRoy's book, Seal also performed Love Is Better live at a benefit concert in 2001; this is back when he was still expecting to release the album. The upshot seems to be that some of the tracks were techno-ish, some were rock, and the 5 that were floating around the web were the atmospheric songs.

Also, intriguingly, LeRoy writes that there's another Seal album "on the shelf"... a rock oriented album he tried to record between his first and second releases, influenced by the Hendrix phase he was going through. Only two tracks of it are known to exist.

I highly recommend Leroy's book. Google books has the whole thing online if you want to just read the Togetherland chapter.

Leroy has been on the forum. The songs that I have heard are worth producing and I hope that Seal has had a change of heart about them. They can always be revised. That is the best thing about music...you can always remix Big Grin

I think 'Love is Powerful' was one of the songs from that mysterious album. It is rock oriented, maybe he took the song and released it as a japan-only single.

I've heard the 5 songs now,And it's really good.
It's strange SEAL didn't put out the CD but if it's the choice of WB and SEAL to not bring it out what can we do about it?.
But if this was brought out, many people will have buy it,
that's for sure.

I guess you don't know the story behind 'Togetherland'. WB turned it down because they felt it wasn't going to sell well. They claimed the album lacked 'singles', but you know that's BS.

I guess Seal felt hurt by their decision against releasing the project, so that's why he keeps calling it "crap".

It's obvious the heads at WB didn't know what a hit album was during 2001-2003. They allowed Madonna's 'American Life' and the Goo Goo Dolls 'Gutterflower' albums to be released and they sucked. She went Platinum (which is embarrasing for an artist of her capacity) and the Dolls went Gold (terrible!!).

Also 'Seal IV' only went Gold and WB allowed that to be released. 'Togetherland' probably would have gone Gold or Platinum at the least.

Since Seal is so psyched into thinking the album is "crap" we might not ever hear it (Well from him, that is.)

LOL, last year there was a wikipedia page about 'Togetherland', but it was yanked off the site. The guy really feels the album threatens his creativity.

I know the story about the album.
and it's strange WB didn't want to release it that's all.
maybe they where thinking the songs where sounding to pop.
that's what i thought when i heared the four leaked songs from the album,
the lyrics sounds less more intellectual then what SEAL normally does.
But the beats are really good.

The creative process is never "crap". Take art...man/woman picks up a brush and creates from viewpoints. The same goes for music...man/woman hears sound and creates upon that sound. Sound is beautiful in that it can be changed/modified, and become a whole new creation. A painting though is finished when it is dry and sold.

Hoping the Togetherland tracks can be that new creation Smile

If Seal doesn't want to release it or talk about this anymore..why do we NOT respect his wishes. It's HIS work.

Because it's clear that he was influenced into thinking the album isn't great. But since the jerks at WB (during 2000-2004)wouldn't push for it's release, Seal thinks it's "crap".

This album is great and needs to be heard, so no, I will "NOT respect his wishes".

Sorry.

So are you saying that you don't trust Seal's judgement?

He is a grown man who is not under anyone's spell anymore...and I think is he felt good about it..he would release it.
NOt your call.
