Haunt My Heart Get It Together |
It may possibly be a product of my imagination, but I feel as if I can understand the lyrics of this album as a whole. With past albums I have struggled to comprehend bits & pieces. Do ya'll concur?
I guess what confuses me most about us, Are the deeds you've done to break my trust, I possess but one glass Heart, For you to stress & break apart ...and thank God for that |

I think Seal's lyrics were a bit more metaphorical in the past. The System tracks are for the most part upbeat, and in a few songs he speaks of his current relationship and the happiness comes though.
There is still the song "Rolling" that gives you the impression that he sometimes doesn't understand it all...what a beautiful song! The song Dumb tells you that there is an undercurrent somewhere...being betrayed...maybe by an exmanager? Seal lost a settlement to an exmanager. I guess you could say the liner notes reflect the displeasure too. He trusted the guy and he was ripped off. Basically, he stoled Seal's Thunder. I really don't think Trevor was the focus of the notes. I think Seal just decided he wanted a new direction in sound, and it has paid off on the dance charts. System as a whole is how we choose to live...do we just follow along blindly even when something isn't fair, or right...or do we make our own system and follow our own dreams for the better. The problem with society is that we have pigeon holed ourselves into believing that if people have different beliefs they are wrong...if two people of the same sex marry they are wrong...if two different nationalities marry they are wrong...maybe it is time for people to just accept the system of other's. To accept a person's soul instead of worrying about pigment, or how much a person has, ect. "A new better way" (Seal) The lyrics do have a clarity, I agree. Love, Janet |

It's funny- I spoke about clarity, but wasn't clear myself.

I do think that most of the songs are easier to pick up what he's saying. That said, I'm still not good at picking up a lot of what is said...
(Just look at some of my posts!) Yes, none of the songs are comparable to "Kiss From A Rose" for sure. |

Robert- great example! Long before the internet was such a hotbed for (often incorrect) lyric sites, I sang what sounded best to me with Seal. I've always understood Seal's stance on his prefernce for listeners to create their own associations and meanings, but I Love hearing where an artist was coming from with their music. Seal recently revealed he often writes using words that sound like they fit into that particular song- taht cause me to raise my eyebrow a few inches...
