Get It Together |
Here's what I've come up for System lyrics. I think I've got almost everything correct (except the bold). Please correct my mistake(s).
Someday, evermore Someday, evermore Someday, evermore Someday, evermore Son, you better go for it Harmony Dissatisfaction And if I could Full of lies Cause I guess that's what they want Son, you father’s known for it Misery Can you read my lips Cause this is my way of breaking ties Is it true that's what you want Well now of this color coating can’t be right When the only truth is that we don’t sleep at night Can it feel real We’re just trying to be persistent But it’s hard from a distance We keep falling for the system So it’s time for a new better way We’re just trying to be persistent And it’s time for a new better way Lie Now you people need to get high Everybody needs a little sunshine From a blurry sky Cause that’s just what they want Well now this color coating can’t be right When the only truth is that we don’t sleep at night Can it feel real We’re just trying to be persistent But it’s hard from a distance We keep falling for the system So it’s time for a new better way We’re just trying to be persistent But it’s hard from a distance We keep falling for the system So it’s time for a new better way We’re just trying to be persistent But it’s hard from a distance We keep falling for the system So it’s time for a new better way Better way Better way Better way Better way Someday, evermore Someday, evermore Someday, evermore Someday, evermore (System) |

Hey, thanks! I really am not good at it, but I figured I'd give it a try. I usually appreciate Seal's music a lot more when I know what he is singing about. You sure don't hear lyrics like these much anymore...

Someday, evermore
Someday, evermore Someday, evermore Someday, evermore Son, you better go for it Harmony Dissatisfaction In a pocket Full of lies Cause I guess that's what they want Son, your father’s known for it Misery Can you read my lips Cause this is my way of breaking ties Is it true that's what you want We know this color coating can’t be right When the only truth is that we don’t sleep at night Can it feel real We’re just trying to beat the system But it’s hard from a distance We keep falling for the system So it’s time for a new better way We’re just trying to beat the system And it’s time for a new better way Lie Now your people need to get high Everybody needs a little sunshine From a blood red sky Cause that’s just what they want We know this color coating can’t be right When the only truth is that we don’t sleep at night Can it feel real We’re just trying to beat the system But it’s hard from a distance We keep falling from the system So it’s time for a new better way We’re just trying to beat the system But it’s hard from a distance We keep falling from system So it’s time for a new better way We’re just trying to beat the system But it’s hard from a distance We keep falling from system So it’s time for a new better way Better way Better way Better way Someday, evermore Someday, evermore Someday, evermore Someday, evermore (System) Well, thankfully you picked up a lot of my mistakes. Honestly a lot of seal songs sound pretty muddy to me, and so I couldn't even begin to answer your question. I just can't believe that I mistook beat the system with be persistant! Oh well, I guess it's obvious that I was one who thought it was, "kiss from a rose on the grave..." This message has been edited. Last edited by: Robert Sterling, |

hehe. i understand "beat the system" too. and i think it makes more sense in the song than "be persistant".
...We got to keep this world together, gotta keep it movin' straight... |

and what is funny:
seal is singing: We’re just trying to beat the system But it’s hard from a distance and i always expected seal to sing this: We’re just trying to beat the system But it’s hard to resist it i dont know why, but i was always confused when he was singing "hard from a distance" cause i thought "hard to resist it" would be perfect for that line ...We got to keep this world together, gotta keep it movin' straight... |

Life's what you make of it This Could Be Heaven |
Hmm, when I listen to the song I hear this: We know this color coding can't be right As in stigmatizing people by their skin color. Makes more sense to me than coating "Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve" - Napoleon Hill |

Hi Tom...I hear the exact same lyrics as you do and I believe you are correct with your analogy. It does make more sense.
I found two more I hear differently: Son, you better go for it Harmony Dissatisfaction In a pocket (And a pocket) Full of lies Cause I guess that's what they want We know this color coating can’t be right When the only truth is |

You're right about those two sections, Silvia

The Beginning |
I agree that it's "color coding," but listening to the lyrics, I think it's a very descriptive challenge to the Bush administration, and to the public to do something about them. The son and the father are Dubya and George H.W. Bush. The elder Bush was famous for the phrase "read my lips," and the color coding is, I believe, the terror alerts - green, yellow, orange and red - that make no sense, and he's saying, "All we know for sure is we can't sleep at night" because of the situation ("color coding" could also mean racially profiling people as terror suspects). And Dubya is known for breaking our ties to our allies. As for beating the system, if you aren't there, in Washington, it's tough - you're too distant from the problem and you have to get into it to change it, or get the voters out to do something about it, to implement "a new, better way." I keep thinking of this song as "Obama's Theme" |

subtle suggestive political. The media will branish a microphone and laude the complant of the political. What they are really doing is labeling and marring you a scar to identify one as being politically conscious. It becomes never-ending a tag to staple the ears of the listeners shut to individual progress.
If Seal is delving into the more administrative govermentally related issues. I would hope that there is a solid conscious behind the movement into this arena. One powerfu voice could be the tempo and heartbeat of a generation. One person , alone could make a stance against what indellibly is a time stricken to shadow by events tumulted by continued indifference and unforseable circumstance. Many such voices are absent of the concerns of this world, whose cares are beyond us now. Whose, legendary words forsook livliness to propell words into many, like hope nesting in the bossom resting in an awkward place. But one man can pierce that heart again, as it had been done by the righteous acts that withstood villainy. "...I may not get there with you. But we as a people will get to the promise land. But, I won't you to know here tonight! That my eyes have seen the coming of the Lord...." Into the uncertainty of life therein purpose stood undetterred and without the terror of what it was tha once stood there; shirken, in defiant testimony. ALl credit and praise is given to the children of the righteous. May you find your way and speak. If Seal has chosen this path then may there then be balance in this world. How auspicious an occurance, when we travel this road; to be born. It is time for a new voice to be heard - distinctly! G. Today, is not yesterday. |
