White hat,
Seal IV is totally different from the rest of Seal's work ( so I understand the "culture shock" thing you had.My friends know as I am called a "seal-person" I really had to tell them it was all good if he diversified... it shows a bit of versatility and creativity on his part ( am very glad about that)
And then for this same difference, a friend told me that she read an article in the papers. Tittled " the downfall of Seal", I told her I didnt read anything like that...and that people have failed to accept his kind of music.. ( can you believe it... here in Nigeria?) People have often told me that I like white music.. I dont know when music is described thus...just because I play a lot of Seal.. yet to get HB, though.
This said article... sent me to this website.. thats the real story behind my logging in, on this site..
I know Seal has had no downfalls and will never have..cos time, space and destiny has made him a star.

You bet I bought Human Being...how could one not? And as far as it catching on in the main stream population, I would have to say it is their lose for shame. It is an absolutely great album and why more people didn't buy it is completely beyond me. I'm always waiting for seal's next album and buy it when it hits the stores without ever hearing it. All of his albums are great......but Human Being has some wonderfull insightfull songs on it. SmileMystery

Hey ! hello...... I feel that Human Being is possibly Seals most "from the heart" recording yet! For me you just gotta close your eyes and ......feel it man!!!!!! Human Being is staight from the heart definately!!!!!!!! Don't get caught up in commercial viability. Seal is above that , please just listen with open hearts and minds, I know you will

Personally, I think it is the best of his CDs, but I wanted to know if I was the only one who bought it. Also, why do you think the album didn't do so well on the charts?

Yeah, JR1, I think it's his best album so far. SEAL IV is great and I hope it will bring new fans, but Human Being is most touching. I think it's very personal, autobiographical album. That's also the reason why it wasn't a hit. It was too deep, too emotional and too honest... And I think, generally speaking, that people don't like to think about lyrics and music. Just give them some beat and rhymes and they will jump like some puppets. Frankly, how many people like to think about anything nowadays? We are living in the world of opportunities. We're choosing to live easy lives. Thinking and feeling... That's too much hassle, it complicates things. So why bother? Well, since HB is your favorite Seal's album you don't have to answer that. I already know the answer and that's one of the reasons I love it too. Smile
Peace,
Konrad
PS: I’ve heard Seal singing Human Beings on Star Lounge. Man, it was like shouting! So powerful, so strong and emotional, aggressive even. I wish he put that version on CD. If people listened to the message of this song, it would change their lives.

Does anybody think Seal III's low sales were partly due to the kinda strange photograph on the CD cover? I was not a Seal freak when that CD came out, but I remember thinking that the cover shot was extemely weird. I was not at all tempted to buy the CD.

Now that I purchased III after buying II and IV first, I love the CD. I find it very original, dark and Pink Floyd-ish. I think that the photograph fits the music very well and I like it. But that is a post-sale reversal of opinion.

Lol, I thought it was "Barfing"...oops. And Rocky, I think the cover portrayed his feelings at the time...the dark periods that we all go through. Love, Janet

I just watched the EPK '98 video on winamp.com, and Seal talks about the cover as well. He says that he's naked on the cover again because it shows his vulnerability as a human being (very true).

I bought Human Being when it first came out. I didn't enjoy it as much as Seal II, but there are songs there that I treasure. The title track, "Colour", "Lost My Faith", "Just Like You Said" and "Still Love Remains" are all beautiful. An artist isn't always trying to knock one outta the park everytime they record an album. Hopefully, they are making an honest expression every time, which is much more important in my opinion.

Bought it when it came out. LOVE IT! It kind of grew on me and then stuck like glue. Don't think the album cover had anything to do with poor sales. You definitely can't judge an album by its cover. This album was made from the heart and not the pocketbook! That's why it's so great!

Believe it or not I just purchased it a few days back. I am a new fan to Seal and currently own the "Best of" with the accoustic CD, Seal II, and Seal IV. Human Beings is a hard one to find in the stores so I had to buy it online. I am excited to get it soon!

It's cool to see a posting about Human Being, because I've been listening to it alot lately.
"When a Man is Wrong" is poignant!
"No Easy Way" always makes me want to cry, because the song truly conveys how difficult it is to say goodbye.
I have Seal loaded in my car and at home and listen everyday.
The thing I love about Seal's music is that it is timeless.

I think I read SOMEPLACE that this albumn was done after Seal's breakup with Tyra Banks...I could be wrong though...

At first I did not like this albumn...I have had to listen to it many, many times to enjoy it.
