Seal did say that the song was in reference to the murders of Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G, but I think the Puffing reference is stretching a bit.

Colour is my favorite on HB but State of Grace does come in a very very close second. When I feel like hearing something that reminds me of "Newborn Friend", I listen to "The Latest Craze" from HB...I liked that one as well. =)

It`s hard for me to say if it`s my favourite. I love them all. It`s kinda like the different shades of the night sky... there are bright stars in each of them.
The brightest for me in HB is "State of Grace".
In Seal (1) it`s either "Violet" or "Wild".
In Seal (2) it`s "Don`t Cry".
In Seal (4) it`s "Waiting For You" (so far... favourites change the more I listen... Seal`s songs are like mercury).

Personally I love Seal`s live and/or acoustic stuff even better. "Violet", "Whirlpool" et al are amazing.

Then you get his lesser known tracks...
"Out of the Window";
"Blues in E" (still one of my favourites of all his songs) etc....

WB were criminal in their lack of promotion for HB... I was another one who never knew of the `family man` track until I saw the dvd. That was a pleasant surprise for us that`s for sure. We then went and bought the dvd for the song.

Seal, just get your ass back to the UK for a tour. And get your bro Jeymes to support.

I used to be an atheist until I found out I was GOD Smile

I had it for my birthday... my best gift actually... I love this alubum, I guess it's my favorite. Songs like State of Grace, Latest Craze, Human Beings, The Princess and the Liar... are just perfect, so intense. I'm in love with them.

Hello, I purchased it of course. I love all the albums but for me the best is the second and the best song "people asking why". Human beings has a song very special: No easy why. Bye.

This was actually my first Seal album. I'd heard a few of his songs and was really intrigued. I used to be pretty musically set in my ways (mostly just hard rock), but I remember the first time I heard a Seal song...It was Crazy, and I heard it in a record store in the early 90's. I didn't buy it then, but it intrigued me. It just had that special ethereal quality to it.

After a few years, Human Being came out, and I heard the first single on the radio. I remember the DJ predicting it would be a big hit. Well, it wasn't, but I thought it sounded so unique, that I went out and bought the cd. I've never regretted that. And this dyed in the wool Led Zeppelin guy loves Seal now. Shortly after that, I went out and bought his first two CDs. And I've been looking forward to this CD for years now. I know he takes a long time between albums because he wants to get it right, but man, it's a frustrating wait Wink

Anyway, first post here, and glad to meet you guys. Oh, and props to Seal for putting up the SealPlayer and letting the public hear the album on the web.

Chaos, Panic, Disorder...My work here is done

Razz THe CD was given to me as a gift from my Brother and Sister in law, I think it's a great CD...I did notice that I played it once and wasn't as thrilled as with the other 2 CD's, BUT...when I played it again later on (can't believe I let it sit for a month ) the CD really grew on me and I adore it now!
Maybe that is why it wasn't rated as good?? People didn't give it a chance, Seal IV and his first two were catchy as soon as I heard them. Cool

Um, I am embarrased. After his first two UNBELIEVALBE CD's, I listened to Human Being, the first 20 seconds of each song, and threw it away. HATED IT.. Too over produced and didn't feel right. I really should buy another copy and give it another round. Needless to say, I was on a serious Seal Deficeit when Seal 4 arrived, and released a HUGE sigh and whispered, "Welcome Back!" after I heard Waiting for you..

It's a little sad to know that Seal does not think very highly of 'Humans'. It is my favorite. Yes it's a bit dark. Yes it's not the most commercial, but it is musically, the most interesting and rewarding.

Wow, i am so glad that i am notthe only one who liked HB. i also think its his best, but thats for personal reasons, since i related to a lot of the songs, as i was going through various of those themes myself at around that time.

I think he chose to follow his soul with this album, ratehr than to do "seal 3" in the same formula as his earlier stuff.

When a man is wrong is perhaps one of the best songs , although they are all individually great, each with its own meaning

I just read an interview Seal did with Vh1 and he calls HB "the album that ten people bought". That made me really sad to hear, the album is brilliant. So emotional, deep and real. I love it. I hope he has seen all these posts and praises, he deserves them for his fine, fine work.

definitely his finest album. That is why it is in my opinion his best work because it is not accessible as 'I' or 'IV'. i love all the albums but HB has crossed over into a realm which is much more than mainstream pop.A classic from the 90's

Regards
Chris

uh huh bought it.... it's something u gotta lsiten to loud.. with ur headphones on... it's something personal that noone else gotta hear (or at least it's for me cos i am very jealous of who's listening to my music).. "the best one" is silly to be said.. cos every album has it's own inner appearance... but it was a dark one though... somehow closed inside. love it in a way.. playing it .. in special moments... as everything else

I bought Human Beings to support Seal as usual, but somehow I lost the CD years ago and do not remember whether or not I enjoyed it.

Hello!
New member here... Smile

Even though my favourite Seal album is SEAL 2, HB does have some really great songs, especially "State of Grace", "When a Man is Wrong" and "Colours".

To me, it doesn't really matter if it sold well or poorly. I can only feel sorry for those who haven't had the opportunity to enjoy the cd. How unlucky for them! Wink

Take care!

I bought it the day it came out. Its special to me because I was living in New York at the time and it really reflected some of my personal experiences as well. I think it is very underrated. The mood of the album carries nicely throughout. Seal will NEVER make another album so personal. If you dont love this album, you're really not a Seal fan.
